m/22 Fur hat (Turkislakki m/22)

The winter version of the m/22 Field hat was a somewhat newer piece of headgear than its summer counterpart, with the original design being similar to the later m/39 Fur hat. A sidecap-like fur cap was introduced in for Finnish armed forces in 1920. If m/22 Field hat was a fairly typical design for the time, m/22 Fur hat was definitely not, being practically a side cap with fur flaps. As with the summer version, light troops and artillery (except general officers) had a leather chinstrap in their hats. As with the summer hat, armored troops and Air Force had their own versions with unique colors. Generals did not use the usual design at all, having a completely different model in the originally specified style.

While m/22 Field hat might have left a lot to be desired, m/22 Fur hat was probably even less suited to field conditions. Due to the design of the fur flaps, they could not be worn folded down in any practical way. Nevertheless, the cap was still being worn during both the Winter War and Continuiation War, being an iconic part of the wardrobe of the likes of Aarne Juutilainen.
